When assimilation isn’t your goal, the only solution is to create the community you need! Featuring queer luminaries John Waters, Beth Ditto, Bruce La Bruce, Peaches and countless others, this comprehensive documentary traces the roots of Queercore, a political, cultural and social movement for marginalized sexual identities. Drawing on the DIY, no-fucks-given hardcore punk scene blossoming in California and around the western world, Toronto’s Bruce La Bruce and G.B. Jones faked it ‘til they made it, creating zines and films that convinced the world they were at the epicenter of a new movement: Queercore!

Using a mix of low-fi archival recordings, photos and writing, director Yony Leyser creates a loving tribute to the pioneers of a liberated scene. QUEERCORE: HOW TO PUNK A REVOLUTION is a fun look at the intersection of music history and queer history, by and for people who thrive at the margins of society as long as they are free to make their art in a supportive community.
